After the bombs fell, the world got colder. Colder, windier, and a lot more dangerous. There are bandits, gangs and desperate loners who all need food, clothes and shelter to survive. Guns and ammo are hard to come by, but blunt and sharp weapons are fairly easy to find.
The outlook is not good. People have gathered in commune shelters, trying to restart some kind of society, but most of them have since been raided or just started in-fighting which quickly escalated to mass murder.
You are the leader of a small band of people, all scared and desperate. One of your good friends, may he rest in peace, shared a secret with you before he passed: somewhere in the "Three Sisters" mountains, there is a hidden commune which has both food and shelter. As a last resort, you have set out for this commune, and you now stand before the "Three Sisters".
The wind blows cold on your face, and you are only wearing a couple of thin sweaters and your old jeans. Time is of the essence - you don't want to move in this frozen landscape after dark. The party still has a healthy 12 rations collectively, and everyone is reasonably fit and healthy. They rely on you to keep the group safe and find this promised secret commune. Can you?
Directly in front of you, there is a large forest which expands as far as the eye can see to the east. To the west, the forest doesn't stretch as far, and it seems to curve away to the north. Instead there is a frozen, snow-covered field with some clusters of trees scattered around. Where will you go first?
[[Step into the forest->Forest]]
[[Turn west and aim for the open field->Through open field]]You lead your party across the frozen tundra. The snow crunches under your city shoes. Outside of the forest the wind blows even harder. You can see the western "sister" in the far distance beyond the tundra.
A bit closer on the western side, you can see a cluster of trees, and of course the forest looms eastwards.
[[Go west towards the cluster of trees->Cluster of trees]]
[[Go east to just outside the forest->Field or forest?]]You are in the great forest, where the path from the south has met a large lake. From here there is a path following the lake in each direction, as well as a small path going into the north-western part of the forest.
The trees are shielding you a little bit from the cold wind, although the lake looks like it could almost be frozen. No time for a bath anyway!

[[To the open field->Through open field]] The wind cuts deep, but finally you have a tiny bit of shelter, as you reach a cluster of bare trees. There is nothing strange about the trees, except that someone has carved a symbol into one of them.
It looks like a face made from leaves and branches, with flowers for eyes and small berries for nostrils and teeth. It looks a bit creepy.
Just on the other side of the tree, there is another, more crude, carving. It simply looks like the number 4.

[[Go south->Other side]] The group is getting tired, but stumbles on. It is getting darker and the wind is blowing. As you're getting closer to the mountain, you suddenly hear the cry of a wolf. That was coming from close by!

People are panicking. "Let's run," one suggests, and you wonder if you can make it to the river. But the wolves will have no problem crossing the ice-covered river, and there is no cover nearby.

Just then, something stirs under the snow. Is it some kidn of vehicle approaching? Or some kind of animal? You look up towards the mountain and quickly see the answer. Snow. Lots of snow. It's an avalanche!
You have about 30 seconds to find cover. You know the right thing to do is to dig down and try to survive the landslide, but you have no showel and there is not much time.

[[Go north to the round hills->Round hills junction]] You walk along the round hills. There is a kind of path here, even though it doesn't appear to be man-made.
You stop after a while as you can see there is a few options here. To the north there is a natural gap between these hills, and the path there starts climbing the "East Sister" mountain.
To the west the path continues towards the riverbank of the lake, and to the east it continues to where the round hills seem to end.
Where to next?

Following the river northwards, you can see an old, wooden bridge not far to the north of here.

Stats:
You ended the game with $party people in your party. You found the commune in $moves moves, and you have $food food rations remaining.
(if: $searched_man)[* You found the scribbled note on the frozen corpse.](if: $warm_clothes)[* You found the winter clothes in the lumber mill.](if: $knife)[* You found the fish knife.](if: $cave)[* You lost a person in the cave.](if: $river)[* You lost a person in crossing the river.](if: $bear)[* You encountered the bear!]
](else:)[You follow a small path down to a bunch of stone buildings and houses carved into the mountain itself.
There is no light in the houses. No sounds or noise. No people in the windows. You walk into a couple of them, and they are completely bare. Deserted.
If this was the secret commune it is certainly abandoned now. That is disappointing. Very disappointing.
After a few seconds of head-shaking, you gather your courage and decide to continue the search for the commune. There is nothing else to do.
